What can I expect on my first visit to a chiropractic office?

During your initial visit, your chiropractor will want to talk to you, not only about your immediate problem, but also about any past health problems or concerns.  This information will assist in the interpretation of the examination findings.  A thorough examination and tests of the affected area (along with related muscles/nerves) will be performed as necessary.

After consultation, history, and examination, your doctor of chiropractic will determine whether or not your particular condition will benefit from his treatment plan.

In some cases, in addition to a spinal examination, your chiropractor may elect to have X-rays taken, or, to conduct other tests to better determine the nature of your disorder or concern.  In those cases, these studies will also assist in a treatment plan.

If it is decided that your condition should respond to chiropractic care, then treatment can begin.

Treatment consists of releasing certain spinal segments, which may have become “locked”, or fixated, resulting in inadequate or abnormal movement and/or nerve irritation of the spine.   Specific corrective adjustments to the spine are performed by hand and are generally painless for most patients.
